I've had good experiences here, both buying and selling. The big corporate scrapyards aren't interested in selling metal to individual hobbyists, but Asner is perfectly fine with it. That makes Asner an excellent resource for welders, fabricators and other DIY minded folks.
Be patient and friendly with the staff, know that metal does have value and this is a for-profit business, and I think you'll find they are great to deal with.

I have never been to a scrap yard before but chose Asner to take my aluminum and steel can recyclables Curbside recycling is no longer offered in my area, so I had about 3 months of cans separated by type that I saved and needed out of my garage. I was quoted $0.30 per pound for aluminum and $0.01 per pound for steel food cans. When I pulled up, there was a sign to stay in my vehicle. 3 men came out, asked me what I had, unloaded my 3 bags of steel cans and 1 kitchen bag of aluminum cans quickly and gave me $2 cash. Because there was no weighing or ticket generated I have no idea how much recyclables I actually turned in (but I don't think I was shorted). If I decide to offer this recycling service to my neighborhood, a ticket of some sort would be necessary in order for proper income, expenses, charitable donations bookeeping on my part.
