Best days to Hit the Junkyard

[sc name="hrz-resp"]

I really love junkyards. If you have a vehicle you know that at one point your vehicle will end up at junkyard or salvage yard. Junkyards are an essential part of the automobile industry and ecosystem. You can find a junkyard in all 51 states, mayor cities have multiple salvage yards, wrecking yard, scrap yards that buy and sell junk cars.

Companies like LKQ Pick your Part, Pull-A-Part, Pick-N-Pull, U-Pull-It are some of the big players, they have junk yards across multiple states, and even in Quebec Canada.

These auto recyclers buy vehicles and put them through a environmental safe process; where they drain all the fluids that harm the environment, pulling out millions of gallons of oil and antifreeze, recycling over 2 millions tons of steel every year, not including auto parts like alternators, engines, transmission, a/c compressors that get reused instead of remanufacture anew.

Picking parts is great for the environment.

best days to visit the junkyard

A junkyard can be a lot of fun, not just that, but it can also be very profitable. You can go to a salvage yard with an specific auto part in mind, you can look to see which car or trucks carry the part you need (inter-exchange), find the part, pull it out and walk away with a good deal.

[sc name="in-article-ads"]

Or you can get there to pull the same auto part you need but also glance around other vehicles for parts to sell, recycle into other things like tables, wall plates, trophies and many other ways to make junkyard art.

JUNKYARD ART

TUESDAY – THURSDAY

Lots of people go to the junkyard to pull parts from the latest vehicles that were just set on the yard. Most folks go to the salvage yard on a weekend, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Those days everyone and their grandma are at the junkyard pulling parts, sometimes you have to compete with someone else to get a chance to pull your part.

Also most junkyards don’t put new cars out on the weekend, the do that between Monday and Friday. The best days to hit the junkyard are Tuesday through Thursday, they have new selection and less people around, plus if you are not an expert mechanic, you can also reach out to one of the part pullers who work taking parts out for the salvage yard customers for a fee.

BEST DAYS TO VISIT THE JUNKYARD OR SALVAGE YARD
You can also check the junkyard website for junk car inventory updates.

HOLIDAYS – DEALS DAY

Most mayor junkyards like LKQ Pick your part, Pull-A-Part, Pull & Pay have holiday specials, during those days or weekends, you will get a great deal, some salvage yards even offer to charge you a set price for everything you can carry on your back or with you at the moment you walk out.  You will also find special discounts of 40% for 4th of July, labor day, Christmas and even their own anniversaries.
40% OFF SALE DISCOUNT LKQ PICK YOUR PART JUNKYARD

Above example is one of those special discount you will find throughout the year at many junkyards on used auto parts.

BE READY TO PULL YOUR OWN PARTS

Many companies like LKQ Pick Your Part and Pull-N-Pay will send you an email notification when certain junk car is put on their yard.

Remember that you are not the only one waiting for make and model to come out for stripping, other people may not need the part you are looking for, but they will be there too, pulling parts as soon as the car is setup.

The longer you wait, the greater the chance for the part you need will be pulled and gone. Certain makes and models of cars and trucks are more wanted at a junkyard than others. think about it, how many people drive a Ford and how many drive a BMW? Also the newer the yard of  a  car, the more people will want the parts.

[sc name="in-article-ads"]
Companies keep an inventory of what vehicles they have in the yard, but they can’t tell you what parts came out or what parts are left on them. You need to be there right away!

BRING HELP AND THE RIGHT TOOLS

The best way to pull a part is to know how and with what tool. having the right tool can make or break your day, but just having a tool and not knowing how to use it can be just as frustrating.

A junkyard will never lend you tools or have someone to help you pull the part, you need to be self sufficient and get the part out yourself, this is due to liabilities and insurance demands. We suggest  you read the Haynes manual or watch some youtube videos of creditable mechanics showing you how to pull the part before you go to the scrap yard. be known that must junkyards prohibit certain kinds of tools like torches, bulk cutters, jacks, power saws and many more.

If you bring a comparison part to the scrap yard, make sure you let them know before you enter, they will probably mark it, so that when you leave, they don’t try to charge you for your own part.

The DOs and DON'Ts When Selling A Junk Car

[sc name="hrz-resp"]

Learn here how to sell your junk cars to a salvage yard, things to do before you commit and what not to do.

This tip are very common knowledge on how the process of selling your vehicle to a junk yard can be. Even tho not all junkyards work the same way you can be more conscience of what you need to do.

You can sell you vehicle for the Scrap Metals or for the auto parts you car has.

The value of a vehicle will vary depending on a few factors:

  • Daily value of scrap metals
  • Is your vehicle complete (engine, head lights, transmission, tires, etc)
  • The Make and Model of your vehicle.
  • The weight of the whole car or truck

This are some of the things to consider when you are selling a junk car to a junkyard.

  • Do they pick the car for free, in case your is not running?
some junkyards will charge you for the pick up and some its free
  • Will they buy the vehicle even if it’s not complete or crashed?
there are a few yard that only buy newer model cars or cars that are complete
  • How much will they pay you for you junk vehicle?
Not every salvage yard will pay you the same for the same vehicle, call around for the best price
  • Can they schedule the pick up of the vehicle at at time that is convenient for you?
You need to make sure they have access to the car and you when they come pick it up, like most of us, we have day jobs and it will be very hard for someone to pay you or get the vehicle from you if they don’t have access to it.

Some of us look at protection of the environment, not all junk yards process vehicles the same way, some are sloppy and most are really good, they try hard to make sure that the fluids taken out of a junked car does not harm the environment for future generations.

After you have receive a free quote for your car, then decide who to sell it to, give them a call and get your money!

We Buy Junk Cars - Junk Yards Scams BEWARE!

[sc name="hrz-resp"]

10 SCAMS JUNKYARDS NEAR ME TRY TO PULL WHEN BUYING JUNK CARS

Junkyard scams

Let’s be straight here:

Auto junkyards do NOT have the very best records, right? This could be the first time you do an online search for auto salvage yards near me and  you might not realize that.

Many people think junk car buyers are shady and therefore are out to scam them, and frequently occasions that’s the fact.

But I’m here that will help you steer the obvious bad ones and point you to great auto junkyards.

The thing is:

Most auto salvage yards and tow truck motorists are honest and trustworthy, you just need to get sound advice before you decide to junk your vehicle and just what to look for when you’re selling your junk vehicle.

But there are a few bad one which will come up with some fast cash scams at the expense of whoever’s comes to them selling a junk car. You should consider your personal interests when you are selling your vehicle for salvage or scrap.

We have put a list of the best junkyards that will not try to scam you, instead they will try to help you sell your vehicle to them. They need your car or truck and the materials they are made of.

LISTED HERE ARE THE WORST 10 SCAMS THAT DISHONEST AUTO JUNKYARDS NEAR ME TRIED TO DO:

Very few consumers have extensive experience in working with local junkyards or getting cash for his or her junk cars using their services. If you’ve always traded your cars in whenever you bought a new one, or offered your vehicle for sale on Craigslist, you will never have offered your old vehicle for scrap or parts to some scrap yard, and become acquainted with the procedure entirely.

Or possibly you’ve bought some cheap used parts from the junkyard before but never worked with whole cars. To get more cash for your junk vehicle, we’ve compiled a summary of the ten top scams that unscrupulous junkyards attempt on novice vehicle sellers.

    1. USING FLY-BY-NIGHT HAULERS

The car junkyard could be the ultimate place to go for your old vehicle, but it’ll most likely be towed there on the flatbed tow truck. Not every junkyards have their very own towing service, and lots of them hire any tow truck driver available whenever your vehicle needs towing for their yard. Be especially careful if you are to be paid in cash for the vehicle. When the truck driver states that upon inspection, your vehicle may be worth way under what they told you initially, tell  him the deal is off and find another wrecking yard to sell your car to.

Another favorite tactic is fly-by-night. Tow truck drivers are to bring  you a check from the scrap yard in payment for the vehicle, but the driver demand that you simply pay them in cash for towing the vehicle, despite the fact that they’re being paid already by the salvage yard for the vehicle. If you are not offered exactly the same deal you agreed to on the telephone with the junkyard, give them a call immediately, and don’t let the driver hook up your vehicle before all details are set back to when you called them.

    1. NO CHANGE INTITLE

Whenever you sell your vehicle to some auto junkyard near me, you will need to sign over the title for that vehicle to legalize the transfer. Not to be confused with the registration, but they are related thou. If you don’t cancel the registration of the vehicle, you can be liable for any damages that may happen while the vehicle is towed away. Some corrupt junk yards promise to fill up the documents essential to cancel or transfer the registration of the vehicle, but instead, they send you an invoice for storing your vehicle in their lot. Also they send you a notice stating that you don’t pay, they will report you to a credit agency. This is why you should always take care of the registration documents yourself, and also remove the plates from your vehicle before they tow it away.

Also do some research on anyone who promises to buy a junk car with no title. While it isn’t unmanageable it will get just a little trickier.

    [sc name="in-article-ads"]
  1. BAIT AND SWITCH

Whenever you negotiate with the junkyard for a price on your junk car, you need to be completely honest on the description and condition of your car, and offer photos of it if they require or request them. Also make sure you keep the auto junkyard to their word and promise price. Crooked auto junk yards will frequently tell you a price, and then give you a much lower price when they show up to pick up and tow yours. Never sign the title of your junk car to them until you have the right amount of money that had been agreed to in your hands. When the buyer tries to renegotiate and give you less cash, decline the sale entirely. Look for a trustworthy junkyard that will purchase your vehicle, paying you the cash that you simply deserve without the headache. Never accept revised offers. Junk car buyers are awful at tricking people to bring their vehicles to their yards, driving or tow, just to tell them that the offer they had before is no longer standing. They know that you already put a lot of time and effort getting there, and that you don’t want to leave empty handed. Don’t sell your car just because you are at the junkyard. Sometimes is better to just do simple repairs to keep it running while you find someone that will pay you what you want for the junk car.

    1. DELAYED PAYMENT

Never let a junkyard tow truck take your vehicle away, or even put their hook on your junk car, until you’ve been paid the full amount you had agreed upon. Once the vehicle has left your possession, you will have very little leverage on how much money you could get for the sale. The junkyard could try to charge you for the towing, even charge you for storing the vehicle if you try to get the vehicle back from them. This could end up costing you more that what the vehicle is worth. Many Junkyards use this tactics of showing up without payment as a method of bait and switch.

    1. CHARGING YOU THE PRICE OF TOWING OUT OF YOUR DEAL

Unless of course you decided to bring the vehicle to the junkyard, the price they quoted you will include the towing done by you. Nearly all cars which are sold to a junkyard aren’t in running condition, and towing the vehicle is anticipated. You don’t have to pay for towing the vehicle to the driver, we have previously explained how they can scam you.

    1. VALUING YOUR VEHICLE AT ZERO

You should get a minimum of three quotes from three different junkyards to get a better value of  your junk vehicle, just do a search such as this one. It will be a lot easier to stop dealing with shady junkyards when you know they are trying to take advantage of you. The worst type of appraisal is when they tell you that your junk cars is worth nothing , and that they will do you the favor of taking it away. Although it may appear like smart thing to do, letting a salvage yard pick your vehicle free of charge, it isn’t. Your vehicle still has value. A vehicle that’s bashed up, leaky, rusted out, or damaged lower is still worth some cash. Even a forgotten vehicle that’s been rusting within the forest for many years has value as scrap metal, as well as your vehicle is most likely worth a lot more. There are lots of occasions buyers will attempt to undervalue your automobile to help you think you’re lucky and becoming a good deal. You should never trust anyone who tells you your junk car is worthless. You should call other junkyards. You could not get a lot of money for you junked car, but it could be enough for a month payment of your new car.

Several junkyards may say your totaled car is worth Zero Dollars, but even those cars have a value in metals

    [sc name="in-article-ads"]

    1. USELESS FREE PRIZES

Crooked companies attempt to hide the amount they are paying you for your junked car within the whole mount, or by stating vague estimates that rely on inspections of the vehicle. Before you agree to have your junk car picked-up, make sure you have a firm quote of the value of your car, making the scrap yard stay with it regardless of what.

Many scrap yards near me hide under other big companies that are resellers or cleaning house for cruises lines, share-times and such, this big umbrella companies only offer customers non-cash incentives to choose from other than being paid by the junkyards. The most common they use is a coupon that can only be used at cruises or share-time vacations . It will not until later, after they already got your vehicle and you have signed off the title that they will tell you that in order for you to take the vacation you will need to pay vacation fees and taxes along with processing, by that time you are already paying above market price for your junk car. Other coupons they try to give you, come with numerous limitations on which dates you can use them, limiting you on the vacation you are planning to take. At this point you should tell the junk yard that you want a check with the full amount agreed upon and that you prefer to pay for your own vacations.

    1. OTHER FALSE INCENTIVES

Be careful if the junkyard is trying to make you agree to a deal that sounds too good to be true.

You will find dealers who’ll offer cash that’s far underneath the going rate that your old vehicle is worth. They will try to throw incentives to make up the lost cash. Even thou these seem to be great at first, the incentives will never compare to your car’s value. Most of the time this incentives or coupons comes with small prints, maybe they are only good if you spend huge amounts of money on products you can only buy from them or that can only be bought certain weeks of the year.

This usually equals the same amount on dollars you could be getting from them, but instead you are being tricked to wait or to even loose the money if you don’t act in time to cash them in. Don’t trade or sell your vehicle for these coupons or false incentives, get in cash what your junk car is worth.

    1. OPERATING WITH NO LICENSE

Auto recyclers have some of the worst reputation, while there are many junkyards are legitimate business and will pay you a great price for your junk car. There’s also lots of junkyards which are shady. It is unknown how many shady junkyards are out there that will try all kinds of tactics to rip you off and pay you next to nothing for your junked car.

Nevertheless, we have found studies stating that many cars designated to be crushed are currently running on the streets or have been cleaned up, fixed up and sold for a sold again to make money. You will find dealers that don’t care about the law and will do anything to make money. Make sure you only deal with business that will take care of you, the environment and follow the law.
    [sc name="in-article-ads"]

    1. INTENTIONALLY CONFUSING YOU

Scam artists are great at distracting you while they take your money. Some Junkyards deliberately try to say things that will only confuse you and make you think you are missing parts or that you are at blame for paperwork missing to make the sale and pay you less. These ‘shell games’ really are a devious way to pay you as little money as they can. Make sure you don’t let these junkyards over explain what you vehicle has and doesn’t. Do your math and don’t let the junkyard employee pressure you into making a deal you will soon regret.

There are many ways you could be scammed when selling you junk car, they will try to pay you as little as  possible. Before you make a final decision, make sure you call at least three reputable scrap yards, get quotes and choose the one that will pay you the most.

Selling Junk Cars To A Scrap Yard Near Me

[sc name="ad-res-desktop"]

A metal scrap yard near me started to buy junk cars for a decent price, advertising they will be paying over $500 for old junkers. Great I said, since we usually sell our junked vehicles to American Iron & Metal or AIM. So we decided to give them a try and see if its true or not they will pay over $500 for a junk car.

We called the scrap yard (we didn't mention we were a tow company that does this for a living and know market prices) so we told them we had a OLD CHEVY VAN G20 SIGHTING and they said yes, bring it over.

Scrap yard near me
Once we arrived there with our vehicle they changed the tune, they said the car wasn't as big as we had told them and that it didn't run (like if they will be reselling it), and the vehicle value was more like $250, half of what they told us on the phone.

We kind of new this was a scam; They make you bring your car over so that you will not want to go back with it or have to tow it back, so they offer you the lowest price possible and then try to negotiate for maybe $25 more.

HOW NOT TO GET SCAMMED BY A SCRAP METAL RECYCLING YARD

When you are selling a vehicle to a scrap yard, call ahead, tell them the make and model of your vehicle, the condition its on and if it's complete (meaning it has the engine, transmission, tires ETC).

Ask them how much is scrap metal per pound for that day, is always good to know how much cash for scrap metal they will pay. Not that you are going to sell scrap metal but that will tell you how much they will be willing to pay for your car, truck or van.

[sc name="in-article-ads"]

Knowing how much does scrap metal sell for and knowing how many pounds your vehicle weights will tell you how much you should get. If you are selling copper aluminum, ask them what is the copper price per pound, same for nickel, steel or anything else you want to sell to them before you go there.

Start with the nearest scrap yard to you, and sometimes look at a junkyard map to see where they all are, the more there are, the more competition there is and maybe a better prices for your junk car. Visiting or calling multiple junk car buyers and scrap metal places near me gave me an understanding on average prices for commodity metals for that day and also learned how much salvage yard / junkyard/ wrecking yard and scrap yard will pay for a wrecked car.

Scrap metal prices change almost daily, you will need to check a scrap yard prices almost daily for an up to date price, always ask them if they have a price list of a website with a current price list. Local scrap yards tent to compete with one another and if you tell them you have tons of pounds of scrap metals they may give you a higher price that if you only had a few pounds, the more material the better cash offer you will get.

A scrap metal yard will try to match other buyer prices if their boss permits it, always ask "what's the best price you can give me?" and tell them you could get a better price somewhere else if you found better prices somewhere else.

[sc name="in-article-ads"]

HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU GET FOR YOUR JUNK CAR AT A LOCAL SCRAP YARD?

The price you will be paid for a junk car is affected by the value set to scrap metals for that day. According to an article on ETF.com, an average car contains about 2,00 pounds of steel and an average truck about 3,000 which accounts for over 55% of the car or truck total weight. A vehicle also has approximately 300 pounds of aluminum in it.

Over at InvestmentMine.com they have a trend with a graph showing the weekly prices for aluminum that will help you find out what prices are.

HOW OFTEN DO JUNK CAR PRICES CHANGE?

Knowing that the main factor on car buyer prices is the value of scrap metals you should know that prices will very all the time.

EVERY DAY

Scrap metal prices can change daily, on some cases even a few times during the same day, just like other commodity metals like gold and silver prices can change multiple times a day. Sometimes you will be paid a bit more or less than the original quoted price.

EVERY WEEK

More commonly you will see scrap metal prices change weekly than daily, Prices very a few cents per pound, but when you are selling thousands of pounds you will notice the price variation. It is good to keep an eye on scrap metal prices to know how much money you will be getting.

EVERY MONTH

This is the most common change to scrap metal prices, by the increase or decrease of prices you should know when is the best time to sell your junk car to a scrap yard for cash.

You need to keep track of current scrap metal prices if you decide to sell vehicles to a scrap yard, but if you are only selling your car or truck, then you should call around and get the current price from a few local junkyards, salvage yards and scrap yard to see who will pay you the most that day.

The more you wait the less your vehicle will be worth, cars go down in value all the time, the older it gets the less its value. Yes there is also value in the scrap metals but for a company to scrap a car of its metals they need to invest a lot. drain fluids, remove plastics, seats, or any nonferrous materials and shred or crush the vehicle.

Incredible $5000 Tax Breaks When Donating a Car to a Charity

[sc name="ad-res-desktop"]

Did you know that if you donate a vehicle to charity you can have a hefty tax break?

Well that not completely true, the amount you are eligible to get depends on the car value and how much the charity gets from the sale of the vehicle.

A vehicle donation can bring you between $500 and up to $5000 in tax credit, whether your car donation goes to Goodwill car donation, Salvation Army car donation, Purple Heart car donation or Make a Wish car donation the amount on your tax donation will still be the same.

[caption id="attachment_2385" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]$5000 tax break on car donation Get a huge tax break when you donate your junk vehicle to a charity, you can get up to $5000 tax break[/caption]

People always expect to get the maximum of $5000 when they donate a car for tax deductions, before committing to car donation tax deduction you need to know what your car is worth.

In the United States most people will sell a vehicle before donating it, and most think that because you donate the car to a junkyard, that their donation counts less, but they are wrong. Selling the car can bring you ask little as $50 plus the time for title transfer and making sure you are not liable when selling the car.

When donating a car, all you have to do is fill a simple donation form, where you state which foundation the donation is for, the salvage yard takes that information and you are done, they take the junk car, auction it, or scrap it, and the money from the sale on auction or the value on scrap metals goes to your desired non profit foundation. Within 30 days you get a receipt of the sale of your donated vehicle that you can use when filling up the IRS form when you do your taxes.

When a car donation foundation gets a vehicle, they could try to sell it in an auction, or sometimes get the vehicle repaired so that they can make some extra money selling it.

Once the vehicle sells, you can get a notification of how much money they junk car brought to them. Whatever the amount they got for the car or truck you can claim a tax deduction up to $5000.

At an auto auction the charity could get as little as $50 for the vehicle, but if you know the worth of your donation, you can claim the minimum $500 instead of the sales price of $50 the charity just got.

Most charities accept cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles and even vehicles that don’t run or can’t be repaired, they usually sell them to scrap yards that dismantle them or shred them for their metals.

There are many local community centers that will trick people to think they are charitable or nonprofit organization, but they are all in for a profit, sometimes not even doing the process required by law to change the title from you to their corporation, leaving your name on the vehicle title to be you, this is always a liability to you.

The donation process is very straight forward, You need to make sure you take your license plates and get a written acknowledgement that the vehicle has been sold to the charity and you get a bill of sale of a receipt for your donation.

Some of the best places that take car donations near me are:

  • NPR CAR DONATION
  • PURPLE HEART SERVICES FOUNDATION
  • MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION
  • THE SALVATION ARMY
  • GOODWILL
  • CARS FOR KIDS
  • VEHICLES FOR VETERANS

If none of those exist close to you, then you can donate your car to a junkyard near you and ask them what are the best car donation charities they support, you can ask them to give the money from your vehicle donation to the charity you prefer.

Donating a car to a junkyard sometimes seems a little flaky but as long as you get a receipt for the donation and they give you a copy of the donation everything should be just fine; just make sure you donate to a reputable junkyard or salvage yard.
